I have been intrigued by the idea of the Sew Bossy Initiative for awhile so I was super excited when Rachel of BooDogg and Me contacted me and asked if I wanted to participate. I love Rachel’s blog and I think that we have very similar taste (which made this a little less scary). So of coarse I said yes and was so relieved when I opened my package to find some lovely neutral fabric from the fabric shop and Papercut Pattern’s Pleated Pants – one of my current trend obsessions.
Pattern: Papercut Pattern’s Pleated Pants
Materials Used: Twill? from the Fabric Store
Sizing: After reading other reviews I knew that it ran large, so when I measured between two sizes I favored the smaller one which worked out really well for me – with a few changes.
Changes Made: I shortened the waistband by about 2 inches (it was really high waisted for my short frame). I also tapered the ankles by about 1 inch and raised the crotch by about an inch.
The Good: This was my first ever fly zipper so I pretty excited by how professional it turned out. It was also my first time to sew up a papercut pattern and it was a great experience. The packaging is so fun, the instructions/diagrams were professional, and everything fit together perfectly.
The Bad: Like others have said the pattern runs a little large. A muslin is a must. I also think that this is a tricky trend to pull off with the pleats around the middle. The flat waistband definitely helps though.
Conclusion: I had a lot of fun sewing this up. It challenged my skills and I learned how to sew up a fly zipper which I am excited about. I can see myself sewing up another pair of these in a drapey fabric which I think would be amazing in the pattern.
A big thank you to Rachel for asking me to participate in the Sew Bossy Initiative with her. If you havn’t seen what I picked out for her then hop on over to her blog pronto (I’m pretty giddy about her make).

Oh, wow, these are cute! I have this pattern and will hopefully sew it up soon (if I ever finish some commissions I took on, ugh)! Thanks for the review!
These pants look great on you! I’ve seen a lot of pant making around the blogs lately and WSJ just posted a cool article last week. It doesn’t cover the sewing of pants, but it does say that this silhouette is very flattering.

These look great! I’ve been thinking about this pattern for my first trousers, so it’s good to know they come up big. Love the fabric!

Love them! The fabric is perfect.
That fabric is rather great. Love the whole ensemble, and thanks for the tips about that pattern. I’ve been wondering….

Very jealous, if I wore these, my bum would look enormous!
Yay! I love these Sew Bossy projects, they’re always so much fun! I think this style of pant is so flattering – am I crazy? I mean, you look phenomenal! Great fabric! Can’t wait to click over to see your bossiness!
Soo cute! I love style of the pants and the print! This is another pattern to add to the to do list!
I know what you mean about this pattern, I’m a bit scared they’ll be unflattering on me. They look great on you though and the fabric is really cool. Tapering the leg was a really good call as well. They’re fab!
i love that you guys were careful to keep each other comfortable. it’s hard for me to not do the equivalent of shoving wedding cake in my partner’s mouth on a sew bossy.
